How to Feed Your new Puppy

The First Week

Dry Food should be left down for all day for the puppy through the transition period.

Soft food feeding directions

  • Do the following 2 times per a day
  • Get a saucer and something to cover it with
  • Place ½ cup of pup’s dry food in it
  • Cover food with HOT tap water
  • Place cover on saucer and let food soak for 15 minutes
  • Drain most of the excess water, if there is any
  • Mix in 1 small tablespoon of canned dog food
  • Put food next to the pups bowl of dry food and leave down for 30 minutes. Can refrigerate leftovers and use in PM.

After the First Week

Your puppy puppy should now be well adjusted after the transition period so now can change to the following feeding program to make house training easier - do the following a minimum of 3 times per a day:

1.       Fill their food bowl up. Yep, that's right, fill it up - do NOT read the directions on the bag of food you are feeding.

2.       Place bowl on floor for 20 minutes and allow the puppy to eat what it wants. Puppies are like growing kids, sometimes they eat a lot and sometimes they eat a little. All depends on where they are in their growth.

3.     After 20 minutes pick the food up. The puppy will generally have a bowel movement within 30-45 minutes after eating.

4.      Once puppy is housetrained you can leave a bowl of food down all the time if you would like.

We hope these tips help you and your new puppy enjoy a long healthy life!!
